Mother’s Day 2010 |
|
|
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today we take time out of our busy lives to honor the person who gave us life, our mother. We are here due to our mother and father. It was our mother who nurtured us until our birth. In many cases it was our mother who cared for us at birth and through to our adult lives.

If we are fortunate enough, we have the opportunity to physically honor our mother on this special day. For those of us who lost our mother to death or some other circumstance, this day might be lonesome, or empty. While others are out celebrating Mother’s day with their mothers, what can one do if that is not possible? For those whose birthmother has already passed away, we can still honor her through prayer and thanksgiving.
With God and Christ there is no death. That is why it is fitting that the Easter Season contains the holiday of Mother’s Day. Just as God gave us life, Mary, through the Holy Spirit, gave us Christ. It was Christ who then gave us back heaven and eternal life with God. Just as Christ gave us an unconditional love to give us back Heaven, mothers too have an unconditional love and bond with their children.
Take time to thank your mother. Love her as she loved you and if you cannot physically do that, then honor her with prayer and thanksgiving for she knows that you love her.
Peace be with you,
Most Rev. William Johnson, D.D. Auxiliary Bishop--ACCUS
